|Dear Ross Families:|
Thank you to everyone who attended our first PTA meeting of the year last Wednesday and we hope everyone enjoyed the Back to School Picnic, especially the Metropolitan Police Department’s Side by Side Band! Special shout out to Mikita Taylor, Wesley’s mom, for organizing such a fun evening.
The Ross Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has been gearing up for another great year, but we cannot do what we do without help from all Ross Families. Parents are so important to a school’s success, and the PTA is a key way that parents can support the school. We appreciate all the different ways our families invest in Ross to continue to make it the best school possible.
You may wonder why we ask you to donate to the school when Ross is publicly funded. DCPS does allocate money to each school, but what Ross does receive is not sufficient to support our children’s education or enhance their experience. The PTA supplements so much that our children would not otherwise benefit from and helps the faculty create the best, most productive, educational experiences possible for our children. These are just some of the things that have made Ross such a highly sought-after school:
*All office and classroom supplies for the school so that the principal may hire additional staff not budgeted for by DCPS, such as aides for all classrooms, and full time Spanish & P.E. teachers.
*Teacher trainings on the latest in literacy, STEM education, and brain-based research.
*Field trips and enrichment experiences that expose Ross students to all that DC has to offer, including partnerships with the Kennedy Center, the National Arts and Humanities Council, the Phillips Collection, Imagination Stage, ReSET Science, and Camp Fraser.
*All classroom technology, including flat-screen TVs for projection in classroom, tablets for certain computer-based curriculum, and teacher laptops.
*All library books (through the Annual Mother’s and Father’s Day Book Drive).Website hosting, content and maintenance
*Ross Calendar for families (both paper and online versions)School-wide events to help foster greater community among the Ross students and families
Our target goal this year is to raise $50,000 and our target family participation is 100%. In the second week of our PTA Membership Class Competition, 90 of our Ross families have joined the PTA, which is a little over 50%!
Please make your tax-deductible donation to benefit Ross through our Square store or you may write a check to The Ross PTA or cash. Click Here to Join the PTAThank you for all you do for our school! We look forward to a great year ahead!
School Supply Packages
Have you paid for school supplies yet? For those families new to Ross, all students are asked to purchase school supply packages through the PTA for $100 per student. The PTA gives the money to the teachers and staff to purchase what they need for each student and classroom, which also saves parents a trip to the store. Please order your child’s school supply package here.
Ross students enjoy field trips and enrichment experiences throughout the school year, but we need you to have volunteer clearance through DCPS to chaperone your child’s field trips. Please click here to complete the volunteer clearance process.
Fillmore Be An Artist Night, 6:30-8:00pm
The next Fillmore event is back to school “Be An Artist” night. This is a fun night where parents can meet the Fillmore teachers and learn about the DCPS arts curriculum while engaging in arts activities. Students and parents welcome!
