Dear Ross Families,

We hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break!  Please see reminders and announcements below.

Mother’s & Father’s Day Book Drive: THIS Weekend!
Our annual “Mother’s and Father’s Day Book Drive” is THIS weekend and we need more parent volunteers to make it a success!  Nearly every book in the Ross library was purchased by money raised from this annual fundraiser.  So if you value books and reading for your kids, please click here now to sign up and volunteer for a shift!

Each shift is just 2 to 2.5 hours long, and Ross students are more than welcome to help at the event!   They are wonderful at getting people to donate, and we have a flyer just for them to distribute.  Also, raising money for their school is a great way for them to engage in meaningful service, while building community at Ross.  We will have water, juice, and snacks to keep everyone happy.

A brief description of the fundraiser is below.  Here is this year’s schedule:
Friday, April 26 – On the Ross playground, 8-9 am
Saturday, April 27 – In front of Safeway on 17th, 9 am to 4 pm
Sunday, April 28 – In front of TD Bank (corner of 15th & P), 10 am to 4 pm
Monday, April 29 – On the Ross playground, 8-9 am

We truly can’t do this without parent volunteers, so please sign up now!  For any questions about volunteering, please email us at or

Thanks in advance for your help!

Description of the Mother’s/Father’s Day Book Drive
At this fundraiser, participants donate $25 to purchase a book for Ross from our “wish list” in honor of a loved one.  The PTA sends the honoree a letter informing of the gift in his or her name and places a bookplate inscribed with the names of the donor and honoree in the book selected.  Donating a book is the perfect Mother’s or Father’s day gift and is also a wonderful way to honor a favorite teacher or a loved one on other special occasions, including weddings, birthdays, graduations, or new additions to the family.  Letters to honorees will arrive by Mother’s Day (May 12th), Father’s Day (June 16th), or sometime in between (as appropriate).

Volunteers help drive traffic to our table, help donors select books and fill out their order forms, and process their payments (cash, check, or credit card).  Volunteering for this event is a great way to spend a couple of hours outside on a spring day, meeting people from the community and fellow Ross parents and caregivers, all for a great cause!

If you would like to donate now in honor of friends and family as gifts for Mother’s or Father’s Day (or other occasions), visit the Ross book drive link here.

Consider Joining the PTA Executive Board or Chairing a Committee
This year’s PTA Executive Board is already succession planning for next year and we can always use more help.  Would you be willing to serve on the Executive Board or chair a committee?  We’d be happy to tell you more.  If you’re willing to consider a position, please email!

Auction Items Still Remaining!
There are still tickets remaining for the Ross Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday, May 4th starting at 4pm.  Read more and buy tickets here!

Le Diplomate Glacé Fundraiser, Saturday, May 11
Every year, Le Diplomate brings a vintage, tricycle ice cream cart to the corner of 14th + Q Streets, NW (right in front of their restaurant) and sells Glacé, a French-style ice cream, made by their pastry chefs. This year, they are going to partner with us and invite children from Ross to help scoop special ice cream in our school’s colors prepared by their pastry chefs and will donate all proceeds from that ice cream sale to the PTA.  More details to follow!

Teacher Appreciation Week
We will celebrate our amazing teachers and staff from Monday, May 20 – Friday, May 24 this year.  More details will follow about all the ways that our families can participate this year.  We appreciate your support!
