PTA Weekly Update

Dear Ross Families:

THE PTA NEEDS ALL HANDS ON DECK THIS WEEKEND!
As you have hopefully heard by now, this weekend is the PTA’s second biggest fundraiser of the year, with both the Holiday Tree Sale and Bake Sale on December 8 and the Tree Sale on Sunday, December 9, 9am-4pm both days.  Remaining trees will be sold on Saturday, December 15, as well.

Holiday Tree Sale Still Needs Volunteers Sunday
Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far to help this weekend!  We could still use sales and delivery volunteers, particularly on Sunday, December 9th in the afternoon from 2-4:30pm.  Please sign up HERE.  Email questions to kateemurphy@gmail.com

Pre-Order Your Holiday Tree Now for a Discount
Please note that you can still get a tree for a discount from our online store through December 6th.  Online and onsite prices are set to go up December 7th.  We even have delivery! Buy your tree HERE and encourage your neighborhood friends and family to also buy their tree at Ross!

Bake Sale
The Ross PTA annual Bake Sale is also this Saturday and we still need baked goods and help selling them.  Can you bake a treat or donate one from a bakery? Can you help set up or staff the table during the day this Saturday from 9-4?  You can drop off baked goods this week. Sign up here:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090D4BAAA62BA2F49-annual

Family Service Saturday, December 8th
What better way to kick off this season of giving than volunteering your time alongside your child?
At this year’s annual Ross Christmas Tree Sale, the PTA will host a sandwich-making event for Martha’s Table. It will take place on Saturday, December 8 from 10am to 12:30pm in the Ross cafeteria.
Did you know …

  1. One in six households in the District struggle to afford enough food.

  2. One in three children in the District experience food insecurity, and don’t know where they will get their next meal.

  3. On any given night, there are 8,350 homeless people in the District, including thousands of children.

Our goal is to make at least 500 meat and cheese sandwiches. The sandwiches will be distributed on McKenna’s Wagon, Martha’s Table’s volunteer-run, mobile food truck.

Ways to be involved in this project:

1. MAKE SANDWICHES: After you buy your tree and stuff yourself with tasty treats from the bake sale, come on down to the cafeteria to make sandwiches.  This is open to all ages and you can stay for ten minutes or an hour. Any help will be appreciated! If you do plan on dropping by, you can RSVP here.

2. DONATE BREAD: In order to reach our goal of 500 sandwiches we will need 46 loaves of bread. If you can’t make the event on Saturday, but want to help out, drop off a loaf of wheat bread in the office. Donations will be accepted Mon – Fri this week.

3. BECOME A VOLUNTEER DRIVER: Martha’s Table is in need of volunteer drivers to bring the sandwiches and other foodstuffs collected to distribution points around the city. This need not be an ongoing commitment, but something that can be done from time to time, whenever you are able. If you’d like to volunteer, email Volunteer@MarthasTable.org with “Volunteer Driver” in the subject line.

Upcoming Community Events
Friends of Stead Park’s Annual Community Christmas Festival will be held on Saturday, December 8th, where you can have your picture taken with Santa (for free!), engage in some seasonal crafts, enjoy a snack and mingle & jingle with others in your community.  Their donation drive benefits the Homeless Children’s Playtime Project and they are asking for grocery store gift cards or pre-paid Metro cards that will go directly to these families during the holiday season.
