Dear Ross Families:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  I hope your children are having a fantastic first week.  You can find us at the PTA membership table outside during these first couple weeks of school so please stop by to say hello, purchase school supplies, join the PTA, and buy merchandise.

Please read on for important reminders and upcoming events; note this newsletter will be posted online and e-mailed on Mondays going forward.  You can find the Principal’s Bulletin on our website, along with all the latest news and information.  Please continue to check there for updates, as well as our Facebook page, and your child’s student folder for school communications.

  • New T-Shirts
    • The PTA is happy to announce that each student will receive a new, white Ross t-shirt this September.  Please indicate your child’s size on this list here or on the order form that will be sent home this week.
  • Field Replacement
    • Returning families will remember that the PTA raised significant funds in 2016 and 2017 to replace the Ross field.  We learned that DCPS has budgeted to not only replace our field, but also our playground in Summer, 2019.  We look forward to discussing what to do with the funds dedicated toward replacing the field at our first PTA General Body Meeting on Wednesday, September 5th at 6:00 p.m.  Thank you for your patience as we work through this positive new development.

  • Join the PTA!
    • We hope that every Ross family joins the PTA and aim for 100% participation each year.  We have suggested membership levels with Ross merchandise gifts as a special thank you for your support.  All donations are appreciated and can be paid either monthly or annually.  The Ross PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is fully tax-deductible.  You can join online here or at the PTA membership table, which will be at school drop off every day this week and next.
  • School Supply Packages
    • Have you paid for school supplies yet?  For those families new to Ross, all students are asked to purchase school supply packages through the PTA for $100 per student.  The PTA gives the money to the teachers and staff to purchase what they need for each student and classroom, which also saves parents a trip to the store.  Please order your child’s school supply package this week here or at drop off.
  • Back to School Picnic
    • Please mark your calendars for the Back to School Picnic on the Ross Field on September 12, starting at 6:00 p.m.  The PTA will order pizza with entertainment provided by DJ Noel.  Please sign up here to bring appetizers, sides, and desserts.
  • Playground
    • Please note that the playground will be open to families at pick-up until 4:00 p.m., after which the JCC will use it for their on-site aftercare program.
  • Volunteer Clearance
    • Ross students enjoy field trips and enrichment experiences throughout the school year, but we need you to have volunteer clearance through DCPS to chaperone your child’s field trips.  Please click here to complete this process.
