Dear Ross Families:

We hope your children had a wonderful first week of school; it was lovely seeing many of you at drop-off.  We will continue to host PTA coffees on Monday mornings throughout September, as well as staff a PTA membership & merchandise table in the morning this week so please drop by.

-Your PTA Executive Board, 2018-2019

After one full week of the Ross PTA membership campaign, we are pleased to announce that 42 families have joined the PTA.  We aim for 100% participation from all Ross families so please join online here or at the PTA membership table this week.  Though we suggest certain donation amounts for joining, we accept any amount to join the PTA, even $1.  The mission of the Ross School PTA is to fully support the Ross Elementary School faculty and staff so that they can create the best, most productive, educational experiences possible for the students.  The PTA does this by fundraising throughout the year, including during our Fall membership drive, as well as by organizing events for students, parents, and staff to create a sense of community at Ross.  We hope that all Ross families will join the PTAvolunteer for our events, and consider joining a committee.; these things contribute directly to our children’s education and make Ross the incredible and highly ranked school it is!

  • New T-Shirts

  • Volunteer Clearance
    • Ross students enjoy field trips and enrichment experiences throughout the school year, but we need you to have volunteer clearance through DCPS to chaperone your child’s field trips.  Please click here to complete this process.

Ask for Good Food for Your Kids (update from Ross parent, Emilie Cassou):

My son is in first grade and although I now pack lunch every day for him, I would like to see school meals improve. Not just for our our family but also the many kids in the city who depend on DCPS meals.

So last spring, I initiated a collective letter to David Grosso, who chairs the DC Council’s education committee, asking for change (more on that below). The plan at the time was to prompty send him the letter as the DC Council was planning to hear legislation on school food in the spring. However, when the Council decided to not move forward at that time, I held on to the letter and now plan to deliver it in September. Thus, there is still time to sign on.

Please note that you can sign whether your child eats school lunches or not, so read on.

The DC Council may be considering an amendment to the Healthy Schools Act that, among other things, may embrace sustainable school foodprocurement guidelines. The letter asks Grosso to push for this and related improvements to school food services.

If you would like to read and possibly sign the letter, you can click the link below and fill out the google form. You can also circulate the link widely and freely to all parents you know in DC!

I think as parents, we can and need to ask for good food; let’s see what we can get done.
