PTA Weekly Update

Dear Families:

Please join us for our Annual Walk To School Day, this Wednesday, October 10.  We will meet at the northeast corner of 15 and R Streets, in front of the 15 Street Presbyterian Church at 7:45am and will leave by 8:00 am to walk across R Street to Ross.  McGruff the crime dog will help escort our kids to school, where weather permitting, we will have school breakfast and coffee for the parents waiting for us on the playground.  The PTA will also be out with school spirit merchandise.  Kids are encouraged to wear their Ross t-shirts and to bring signs or banners with a school or pedestrian safety message.  Bikes, scooters, and strollers all welcome!
Note to ALL Drivers: On October 10, if you must drive (but we hope you won’t!) please make arrangements to park away from the school to help us ensure our students’ safety as they walk to school.

Open House
Our first Open House of the school year for prospective families is Friday, October 12 at 9:00am. We always welcome volunteers to tour our guests and answer questions about our school.  Please sign-up to help here.

Girl Scouts Information Session
There will be a meeting for interested parents & guardians of girls in K-3rd (and older, if there is interest) to discuss forming a Girl Scout Troop at Ross Elementary.  Please join us this Saturday, October 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on the Ross playground.

This year’s Spooktacular will take place at Ross on Tuesday, October 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. All Ross families are invited to attend!  Wear your costumes and your walking shoes for a parade around the neighborhood at 6:30.  We will have games, popcorn, and pizza.
If you are able, please bring some spooky food to share. We also need volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and helpers during the event.  Sign up here!
If you have concerns or questions about the event, please contact Katie Mastin at
Thank you, and looking forward to seeing you at Spooktacular!

SWWFS 5th Annual Auction
Please join the School Without Walls at Francis Stevens HSA at their 5th Annual Auction – Saturday, October 20 from 5:30-9:00 at the GW Science and Engineering Hall, 800 22nd Street, NW.   The event is free, fun, and open to the public.  It is a great way to meet members of the SWWFS community and to support the school, as all proceeds go to the HSA.  This is their largest fundraiser each year and they would love to have you join!  More information is available here, including a preview of some of the items for the silent auction(which we’re adding on a rolling basis – so check back often) and how to buy open bar tickets (early bird price for the Tiger Club is $35/person).  There will be light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
Babysitting will be provided a block away at SWW high school ($20 for the first child, and $10 for each additional child in a family – dinner and snacks included).  Please reach out to Auction Chair, Carrie Rieger Brownlie, at if you have any questions or are interested in babysitting services.
