Dear Ross Families: Thank you to everyone who attended our first PTA meeting of the year last night.  Parents are so important to a school’s success, and the PTA is a key way that you can support our school.  You have an enormous impact on the education of our Ross students and we thank you for all of your contributions; without you, we would be limited in the opportunities we provide!

The PTA has a number of events coming up in October that we could use your help with, including an Open House on Friday, October 12th at 9:00 a.m. and our famous Ross Halloween Spooktacular scheduled for Tuesday, October 30th this year (returning families know that the Spooktacular is one of the highlights of the school year for students and parents!).  Volunteering your time and/or talents is a great way to get to know Ross, to meet other Ross families, and to support your child’s education. Please review the opportunities listed here and respond with your interest; you are not committing to anything by signing up!

Please read on for some important updates.  We look forward to seeing you and your families at next week’s Back To School Picnic!

Sincerely, Kate Gardner, on behalf of the PTA Board, 2018-2019

Join the PTA: Class Competition Please consider joining the PTA; we are a small school that relies on the active support of parents.  Each year, we have a friendly competition among grades with the first two classes to reach 100% participation not only win school spirit bragging rights, but also either an extra free dress day or recess.  At nearly the end of week three, I’m pleased to announce 53% of students at Ross have joined the PTA.  The Polite Pandas (aka PK3) are in the lead, with the Brilliant Bettas (K/1 Emminger) close behind!  All donations are appreciated and can be paid either monthly or annually.  The Ross PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donation is fully tax-deductible.

Monday Morning PTA Coffee & NEW MERCHANDISE Please join us Monday, September 10th for coffee on the playground at drop-off.  We have new Ross baseball t-shirts and the first round of white Ross t-shirts for our students if you would like to pick up your child(ren)’s.  You will also have the chance to join the PTA and purchase school supplies if you have not already done so.

Bake Sale at the Back to School Picnic The Determined Dragons (aka 4th Grade) will be hosting a Bake Sale at next week’s picnic.  Please save room for dessert; proceeds to go to a garden beautification project that integrates with the 4th Grade science unit.

School Food Advisory Board DCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) has created the School Food Advisory Board (SFAB) to share updates and gain feedback from the DCPS community in our effort to continually improve our meal programs. We want to make sure that every school community’s voice is heard!  Please join the next SFAB meeting on October 3 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Brookland Middle School. Parents, teachers, administrators, students, and all community stakeholders of DCPS school meals are welcome to attend. Those interested can visit the SFAB website to RSVP or learn more.

Message from Friends of Fillmore President “Ross families – thanks so much for letting me come to your PTA meeting and talk about Fillmore. You have a wonderful community and a wonderful school. If you care about arts eduction, think about joining our PTO.  As I metioned last night, it’s not the same heavy lift as the full Ross school PTA, and every little bit helps us support Fillmore.

School Supply Packages
Have you paid for school supplies yet?  For those families new to Ross, all students are asked to purchase school supply packages through the PTA for $100 per student.  The PTA gives the money to the teachers and staff to purchase what they need for each student and classroom, which also saves parents a trip to the store.  Please order your child’s school supply package here.  If you are not sure whether you have purchased this, please e-mail.
Volunteer Clearance Field trips are being scheduled and we hope you can join your child!  All DCPS schools require you to have volunteer clearance to chaperone your child’s field trips.  Please click here to start this process.  Note that we will have DCPS Fingerprinting Services at Ross on September 25th on a first come, first served basis.
